Chandigarh: Many students cannot pass their gate exams due to many problems. Some of the students might ask that I have already given GATE exam for two times, can I give again i.e. GATE exam for third time? Yes a student can give the exam till he gets the 60% and above. So he or she can easily apply for the admission in general category. As there is no limit for attempting exams but there is a limit for the age. There are many students across the globe who attempt again and again till they have cleared the gate exam.

What Is the Maximum Number of Attempts for GATE Exam?



Chandigarh: GATE test is the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering for Engineering Students. It is an All India Examination to examine the complete understanding of the aspirant in various pre-graduate subjects in Technology, Engineering, and Architecture.  The GATE score replicate a relative performance level of the candidate. This exam is conducted to acquire admission to Ph.D, M-Tech, PSU, JRF programs. Private and public sectors also use the score for employing engineers. 

GATE is administered and arranged on part of the National Coordination Board-GATE by the seven Indian Institutes of Technology Delhi, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Bombay, Madras, Roorkee, and Kanpur jointly in coordination with Bangalore’s Indian Institute of Science. The overall responsibility and coordination of conducting the GATE depends on these institutes.

 The Eligibility Criteria for Appearing the GATE Exam are Listed Beneath:

  • Candidates with Bachelor’s degree in Technology or Engineering or any degree program equivalent to it from a recognized University.
  • Aspirants with Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electronics, Science or Statistics. The candidate who has qualified the examination carried out by professional societies recognized by AICTE or UPSC is eligible for GATE.  
  • Aspirants with Bachelor’s degree in Design or Architecture are eligible only for Master Design program.
  • Candidates with Master’s degree in Physics with Instrumentation or Electronics are eligible for M.Tech programs.

Some Important Information related to Gate Exam:

  1. GATE score is valid up to Three years.
  2. One can apply maximum times for GATE.  There is no limitation for attempting the GATE exam.
  3. There are no marks criteria.
  4. The minimum age must be above 18 years for appearing GATE or else there are no age criteria.
  5. Only the passed out batch and last batch of present financial year and are eligible for GATE exam.
  6. The 3rd-year students are not qualified for this year GATE exam.
