GATE 2015 Syllabus for CSE and IT Department Students (Code Name: CS)



Gate 2015 syllabus for Computer Science Engineering (CSE) and also for Information Technology (IT) Students

Note: Gate 2015 exam is conducted by IIT Kanpur

The Computer Science students and Information Technology Students will have the same paper and the Code Name of the Paper is : 'CS'

#1 General Aptitude:


General Aptitude Paper is common for all the Students from different back grounds. In General aptitude there are two different sections: a. Verbal Ability, b. Numerical Ability.

#2 Basic Engineering Mathematics:


It includes Probability, Algebra, Permutations & Combinations, Graph Theory, Linear Algebra, NM (Numerical Methods) and Calculus.

#3 Core Syllabus for CSE and IT:


It Includes Questions from Digital logic, CO (computer Organisation and Architecture), PD (Programming and Data Structures, Algorithms, Computational Theory (CT), CD (Compiler Design), OS (Operating Systems), Database systems, IS&SE (Information Systems and Software Engineering), CN (Computer Networks), Web Technologies (HTML, XML, Client Server communications).

Total Number of Questions: 65

Total Number of Marks: 100

Number of Marks Allotted for General Aptitude Questions: 15 marks.

Number of Marks Allotted for EM (Engineering Mathematics): 15 marks.

Number of Marks Allotted for Core Subject: 70 marks.

Important Note #1:


Basically there are two types of questions: 1.Multiple Choice Questions ans 2. Numerical Answer Questions. All the question will not carry same marks. Each question will have a minimum of 1 mark and a maximum of 2 marks.

Important Note #2:


No Negative Marks for numerical answer questions. Negative Marks are applied only for Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ's). For 1 mark questions, 1/3 rd mark will be cutoff if the answer is wrong, similarly 2/3 mark will be cut off for 2 marks question if the provided answer is wrong.
