There are 22 Papers in GATE Exam. Which to Choose? How Many Papers I Need To Choose?

The Ways and Methods to Select the Correct Paper for GATE Exam:

Chandigarh: GATE is the acronym for the pan –India testing created for students from the engineering stream. Like any other test, this is designed to check and evaluate the knowledge of the person attempting that test. However, the biggest question is how does a student narrow down his or her choice of paper?

Students have a choice of twenty-two papers available to them. The choice can be narrowed down by two basic ways:

1. The Stream from Where He or She Graduated- If a person has graduated from the mathematics stream; they can pick a corresponding paper. However, if a person has graduated from a stream, that does not include engineering and mathematics, he or she can choose to give the paper covering life streams. This includes Chemistry and Biology related topics.  While most of the papers would be related to the engineering stream, there are few which are more generic in nature.  
2. The Institutes Where They Want To Get Admission to- There are some institutes, which specialize in a particular stream. There are many instances where a person may have learnt general engineering but wants to seek admission to the Aeronautical branch.  They are free to do so. All they have to do is prepare for the topics included in that paper. The choice of the paper is also linked to an individual’s career ambitions. 

Students need to remember that anyone can give the GATE exam. However, it is crucial to understand that the ranking is different for each batch. For example, if a student was in the top percentile of Batch A, there is no guarantee that he or she would be able to replicate that in Batch B. The reasoning is simple. The percentile is calculated on each batch’s individual performance.  Hence, the choice of paper should be the right one and not something that they cannot understand.
