Chandigarh: The validity of the GATE scores is decided to be extended to help the students gain experience subsequent to B. Tech/B.E degree completion. It will also aid the students, these have taken education loan to seek B. Tech degree as they can work for 2 to 3 years to pay off their loans and then seek a degree in M. Tech.
Moreover, these experiences will be of great help later as companies hire the aspirants who have work experience of 2-3 years. With the extension of validity of scores, every aspirant can easily gain industry experience for more than a year. Previously the Gate scores were valid just for two years hence students could acquire job experience only for one year before getting admitted to M. Tech degree.
The GATE officials said, a student who looks over to work for two years to repay the loan taken for pursuing the B. Tech could not do so till now as the GATE score would lapse in such case. However, the changes in rules will provide them flexibility.
The GATE score is vital to apply for jobs in Public Sector undertakings as they do not hire graduate engineers too frequently. At times the job opportunities in PSUs, open after a break of a year or two. The candidates those are waiting to get PSU jobs can obtain a great benefit as the GATE score will be valid for one more year.
As per the reports, more than 17 Public Sector Undertakings will employ the applicants with GATE scores.

- Telecommunications Consultants India Limited
- Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd
- Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd etc…
Moreover, the extension of validity of the GATE score card for three years can succeed only if the GATE test model remains unaltered for three years Or else the quality of students will fluctuate.
