The Negative Markings in GATE Examination

Chandigarh: The Gate exam is divided into three different sections. The explanation of marks division, and negative markings is given below:


1 Mark Questions:

The question 1 to 25 will be of 1 marks, and 1/3 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer in this particular section. If you got 1 marks and then answered four questions wrongly then your marks will be zero. The total marks for first 25 questions will be 25 marks, 1 x 25= 25 marks.


2 Marks Questions:

The question number 26 to 55 each question, carries two marks and the negative markings deducted for each wrong answer is 2/3. The deduction of marks in this section will be double. If you scored 12 marks in the first section and if you got your answer wrong in this section the chances of your score, going down to zero and after that into negative markings are quite more.  Instead of answering the questions wrong, just do not attempt the questions at least you can secure the marks that you scored. The main thing is that GATE cut off marks is not in 50 marks or 60 marks it is in between 20 to 28 marks. Make sure that whatever questions you attempt you are writing down the correct answers.  The total marks for the second section is 60 marks, 2 x 30= 60 marks


2 Marks, But For The Pair Questions:

The third section from question number 56 to 60 and 61 to 65.  In this section, 2 marks each question, but common data are given for both the questions.  In this section, one question is easy, and the other one is complicated. Answer the question only if you know the correct answers to both the questions or else do not attempt as if you attempt one question and do not attempt the other one or the other question's answer is wrong both the answers will be considered wrong, and you would lose 1 mark. The question 56 to 61 will carry one mark and 61 to 65 will carry one mark. This section consists of general aptitude questions.
