What Is Electronics and Instrumentation?

The Engineering stream Electronics and Instrumentation are a combination of both Instrumentation and Electronics subjects. In Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, the instruments are the one by which we measure or regulate the physical quantity and process variables such as Temperature, Pressure, Level, and  Flow. There are several types of instruments like Thermistor, Transmitter, Thermocouple, RTD,  different kinds of Valves, etc. These instruments produce  an output signal that might be  in the frequency, voltage, current (4-20mA), etc.  Later these signals are converted into readable values by sending them to the computerized systems like DCS, Lab View, PLC, SCADA and various other systems.

Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering:

The Electronics is also defined as the one which deals with the emission of electrons and also deals with the electrical circuits. It is entirely different from the Electromechanical and Electrical Technologies. Electronics is the study of the dynamic behavior of electrons in semiconductors. The digital information processing is possible due to the ability of an electronic device to act as switches. The digital information is processed by using motors, wires, batteries, generators, relays, transformers, resistors, etc.

The study of instrumentation is the development and implementation of electronic and electrical  instruments for the purpose of measuring, recording, monitoring, and displaying physical phenomenon. This  subdivision of the Electronics and Instrumentation is recently introduced in the engineering field.

Career Prospects:

Electronics and instrumentation are a special branch among the several branches of engineering. It deals with electronics equipments and instruments for controlling, measuring and maintaining.  This stream of engineering is very useful for many different areas like Robotics, telecommunication, biomedical, computer control in process application, fiber optics, VLSI, etc. It is very much in demand in the industry. Hence setting a career in this field would be very beneficial.  By scoring high GATE scores, one can take admission in this subject in IIT’s and NIT’s and other good colleges. 

One could score high on the GATE test by acquiring training from the coaching classes as it would help with understanding the basic and complicated concepts related to the subject.
